The Future of this Blog

Hello Readers! First of all, I want to say thank you for all the support that has been coming in for me and for this blog since the last post. It’s sincerely one of the most touching things ever and has really pushed me into a more positive place in life. Getting to talk to some of you has been a highlight of the past week. Things are still rough, to some degree, but as Macca says, “It’s getting better all the time.”

I just wanted to write up this quick post to let you all know what I have planned and am hoping to tackle going forward with this blog. While I do hope to get all of this stuff done, or at least attempted in some way, across this blog’s future, I also want to temper your expectations by being upfront about the chaotic nature of my schedule and my life. Sometimes things change around. Sometimes it’s often. Sometimes it’s calmed down. I’m starting a second job this week, so I will be juggling two jobs along with continuing work on my MFA, time with friends, time for reading and writing, etc. I have a plan for handling this crazy schedule that I’m going to be putting into effect once I’ve finished training for this new job, so a lot of what I’m going to lay out for you in this post are going to be things you can expect coming more regularly starting around June or so. I will do my best to stick to what I can and will be as transparent with you all as much as I can so that you’ll know about any changes that I have to make.

So, with that out of the way, let’s get excited for the future!

This listing of what I’m going to start adding into a semi-regular rotation of writing topics for this blog is in no particular order of priority or anything like that, so keep that in mind as you read the following.

First, I’m going to be keeping you updated on my ongoing state of mind and informing you on personal moments in life through additions to my “Mind (Remixed)” series, which I will post on twice per month for now, but I will adjust that for more or fewer posts depending on how it goes. These will likely be the most abstract posts on the site, as they’ll be focusing on positivity and states of mind and ideas, things we can do for ourselves to have better lives or to help others have better lives. That’s the main focus of “Mind (Remixed),” so I hope you’ll tune in for those and that they’ll help bring some level of enjoyment and happiness into your lives.

Second, I will start a writing journal of sorts to keep you all updated on my writing process, be it what sort of work I did during a certain period of time or what I’m about to publish and where, or perhaps even sharing some of my writing directly on here. I hope you’re all excited for that, as I would love to share these stories with you all. My main focus currently is my novel, but I put plenty of other time into other kinds of projects as well, so there’s plenty to be shared.

Third, I’m going to start writing more about specific things I’m a fan of, which will include posts on music—more specifically what I’m listening to through my week, as well as how it’s inspiring me or affecting me in any way—and posts about books I’ve been reading—in particular, what I’m reading for the purposes of research for my MFA thesis, for now, as it might also help inform you about what’s going on with my current novel project, which is my thesis as well. The book reading posts will somewhat feel like reviews, but will be more personal, more subjective, and mostly focus on what I gather, creatively, from the reading. Perhaps it can help feel a bit like a book club for you all. Perhaps you’ll want to read along, and I sincerely hope that you try to in some cases if it’s about a book that seems interesting to you. I will be letting you know in advance which books I’m reading to be in an upcoming post, so that you can hopefully get the chance to read it before I discuss it, if that is your preference. Of course, I will also discuss books that aren’t specific to my MFA experience and my thesis work, as I’m consistently reading different things for a multitude of reasons, and eventually I will graduate from this MFA, so after that, it will all be personal picks.

Another thing that these sort of “fandom” posts will likely discuss from time to time will be what video games I’m playing through, once I get more time in my life to play more games. When I was better off, financially, I tried to give a little bit of time to some games each week, even if it was just an hour or two. It’s a fabulous experience, not just for the escapism effect, but more for the stories that get told through that method of storytelling. Video games are a medium for these experiences just as much as film and music are, so I hope that eventually, when I’ve got more breathing room in my life (and my wallet) that I can perhaps play some games again and write to you about some of my favorite moments in those games or even just overall impressions.

I used to be a streamer on Twitch—never made much money off it, mind you, but I did make some incredible friends through that time—but I still have much of the equipment and knowledge from that venture, so who knows, maybe I’ll record and edit some footage of the games and post them up for the patrons over on Patreon to accompany each post for that topic.

In addition to video games, I would also love to write about any movies and television series I’m watching as things go by, much in the same way that I intend to write about books. These posts will likely be very open in terms of focus and themes, depending on where my focus was engaged the most in the experience of the viewing. Perhaps one movie will have me thinking more about the cinematography, another might have me discussing the script, while a television series might have me focused more on the overall arc and how well (or not so well) it worked out over the course of the show.

Speaking of shows, this brings me to, potentially, the thing I’m most excited to start writing about for you all to enjoy: Doctor Who. My favorite tv show. Possibly my favorite intellectual property, fanbase, series, universe, anything, in this life. I will start those posts off with a long introduction style essay about how I got into Doctor Who and what it’s done for me and my life and how I want to engage with it in the future, but the short and sweet version is that Doctor Who has been in my life for so long it feels it’s a part of my DNA now. I’m never not thinking about it in some way. I intend to write for Doctor Who professionally in some way in this life. Do or die (then regenerate and go again).

I have a lot of essays planned for the Doctor Who content, unsurprisingly, and there’s so much history and continuing excitement to be discussing with the Doctor Who world that it ought to keep me writing for ages.

There’s so much to be excited about for the future of this blog and our experiences together. I’m looking forward to seeing your reactions to what I end up doing here. I intend to keep this site as fresh and exciting as I possibly can going forward across the coming years and to use it to branch out more and get to know more people, be it readers, people in the writing community, fellow fans of things—Doctor Who fans, please come chat me up, anytime—or whatever it may be that comes out of this wonderful opportunity to sit down, fill you in on what’s filled up my brain on a regular basis, and get to share at least some level of this life with you all.

Thanks, as always, for reading! See you in the next one!
